Cultural heritage of the SCL Tigers
Special exhibition and expansion of the collection at the Chüechlihus Regional Museum
The ice hockey club from Langnau, the SCL Tigers, celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2021. The club and the Chüechlihus regional museum took this anniversary as an opportunity to look after the Tigers’ heritage together.
The SCL Tigers are part of the region’s DNA and therefore also part of the regional museum, which collects, preserves, presents and communicates the cultural heritage of the Oberemmental region from past to present. Together with the SCL Tigers and in close cooperation with the fans, the club’s heritage was therefore collected as part of the project, made accessible to the public and is now safely preserved for the future.
The exhibition contained memorabilia relating to the moving history of the ice hockey club. These objects came from the club itself, but also from the fans, Langnau residents and people who link their history to that of the SCL Tigers. They all had the opportunity to hand in their memorabilia and stories to the stadium and the regional museum. A fitting presentation was provided. The treasures handed in did not disappear directly into a depot. A modular shelving system was used to present the steadily growing collection in the regional museum itself immediately after the items were handed in.
Part of the special exhibition was integrated into the redesigned permanent exhibition of the regional museum in 2025. Since then, the SCL Tigers and their stories have been part of the permanent museum exhibition.

CULTURE, WHERE TO SPEAK
When museum objects find a language
Radio play on regional radio neo1 & audio walk at the Chüechlihus regional museum
As part of KULTUR, WO Z REDE GIT, regional radio station neo1 and the Chüechlihus regional museum have invited five artists to take a closer look at the Emmental’s cultural heritage. Spoken word author Achim Parterre, author and journalist Benjamin Lauener, spoken word artist Jenn Unfug, author and storyteller Kim Schmid and slam poet and songwriter Pesche Heiniger were inspired by the Emmental contemporary witnesses at the Regionalmuseum Chüechlihus. They were each allocated five exhibition rooms. The authors have each selected one object or the entire room and written texts that open up new dimensions for the objects and rooms. Apart from a time limit, the writers were free in form and content. The lyrics were recorded in an intimate “recording session”.
“We all have our rough edges, and most of us also have a wheel off, and that’s a good thing!”
Jenn Unfug
The result is wonderfully witty, funny and touching contributions. Including those in which the loom weaves the threads of life, the club jacket and ice skates dance together and the rose kitchen iron keeps the kitchen tidy. Or those in which Al Capone is resurrected in the Emmental, the butter churn and Milchmelchterli sing a chanson de résistance and the wooden soldiers’ paint slowly but surely peels off.
The literary contributions, which ran through the Radio neo1 program from March 2023 to February 2024 and through the Chüechlihus Regional Museum from November 2023 to the end of 2024, offered new, varied and different perspectives from the here and now on the Emmental’s cultural heritage both inside and outside the museum. The majority of the texts are in Swiss German, with a few contributions in German.

About the authors
Achim Parterre , alias Michael Lampart, is a spoken word author born and raised in Biel. He now lives in Langnau im Emmental. From 2010 to 2016 he was the author of the morning stories on Radio SRF 1 and founded the spoken word trio “Die Gebirgspoeten” (2007-2022) together with Matto Kämpf and Rolf Hermann. We asked Achim because we had seen him discovering and inspecting historical objects and were keen to find out what the sparkle in his eyes meant.
Benjamin Lauener is an author, journalist and speaker. He lives in Langnau im Emmental, was born and grew up here and – according to Benjamin Lauener – also learned to write here. For Benjamin Lauener, there is nothing better than a good story. And that’s why we invited Benjamin: We are fascinated by the stories that emerge when his fresh gaze is directed not at a person or political processes, but at the Emmental’s cultural heritage.
Spoken word artist Jenn Unfug writes, moderates and organizes. Whether panel discussion or spoken word event, Jenn is active both backstage and on stage. Jenn lives in Winterthur and has been organizing the non-competitive “Nebeneinander Poetry Slam Show” there for over six years. We asked Jenn because Jenn lets us look deep inside, Jenn touches us with personal-poetic texts and we like the socially critical approach of Jenn’s texts.
Author and storyteller Kim Schmid was born and raised in the Bernese Oberland and now lives in Wingreis on Lake Biel. In 2022, she completed the Literary Writing course at the School of Applied Linguistics. We invited Kim because we were immediately captivated by her energy and enthusiasm. Her performances of the Emmental contemporary witnesses immediately took us into her own world of stories.
Pesche Heiniger is a slam poet, singer-songwriter and columnist. He was born in the Emmental, grew up there and – as he himself writes – grew into it. The Swiss Poetry Slam champion in the Team 2022 category now lives in Frittenbach, in Langnau im Emmental. We asked Pesche because he fascinates us with his wordplay and inspires us with his cheerfully daring and thought-provoking texts.

Ceramics exhibition & ceramics market
The Chüechlihus Regional Museum in dialog with members of the KeramikForum Bern
In the “Im Dialog” exhibition, 25 members of the KeramikForum Bern showed their work for 10 days in Langnau im Emmental. The idea for the exhibition was the result of a collaboration between the KeramikForum Bern and the Chüechlihus regional museum. The ceramicists were inspired by the permanent exhibition at the Chüechlihus and created ceramic works that deal with the Chüechlihus, the objects in the collection and their history. The newly created works interacted with the historical heritage of the region in the exhibition. The new interpretations were available for purchase. In addition to the exhibition, a ceramics market was held on Saturday and Sunday, April 27/28, 2024 on Viehmarktplatz. Introductions to historical “Langnau ceramics” were also offered and a brochure on Langnau ceramics was published.

“Art on the tree” for Christmas at the Chüechlihus Regional Museum
The Chüechlihus Regional Museum shows and discusses different views of the region and offers a platform for different perspectives from the region. The museum thus also offers space for regional artists and art that deals with the region. The idea and implementation of the “Art on the Tree” project came from the Langnau artist Jasmin Wüthrich, who used this installation to ask whether art as a decorative element could be used to create a social connection and initiate a new context for experiencing art and places for discussion. The entire installation, the tree as well as the tree decorations – the individual watercolors by Sebastian Kelemer – could be purchased at the museum.

Madeleine Ryser worked on each of the exhibition themes in an accompanying brochure. The result is a colorful bouquet of texts on the Emmental’s cultural heritage: from the monasteries to natural disasters, trade, love and life in the Emmental to various personalities who made the region famous beyond its borders. The brochures are available in the museum store.
These texts are published in the publication“Oberemmentaler Geschichten“. They are supplemented and contextualized with exciting articles about and from the region. This is not just a publication with the legacy of the former museum director. It is a reference work on Emmental history which, with its variety of topics and easily accessible texts, offers exciting insights into local history and thus helps to preserve and pass on the past of all Emmental residents. The publication “Oberemmentaler Geschichten” is also available in the museum store.
Until the Schwaar Foundation was dissolved in 2019, the Chüechlihus Regional Museum regularly hosted exhibitions of paintings from its collection from 2009 onwards.
